Layer Day 2025

The “Two Arms of Immunity” Strategy Against Salmonella

Ceva Animal Health Malaysia successfully hosted its highly anticipated Layer Day 2025 on 10th July, attracting a full house of poultry professionals, including key national layer and breeder producers from across the country.

Themed “Two Arms of Immunity,” the event focused on the importance of a synergistic approach to Salmonella Disease control, combining both live and inactivated vaccines as a comprehensive defense strategy—symbolically represented through the coordinated effort needed to make a three-point shot in basketball using both arms.

The event was officiated by Dr. Lee Jin-Ee, Country Manager of Ceva Animal Health Malaysia & Singapore, who opened with a compelling question: “Why choose only the left or right arm?”—emphasizing the need for a holistic, dual-armed strategy in (any) disease control.

The agenda featured expert speakers:

  • Dr. Chin How Cheong, Poultry Health Technical Advisor & Consultant
  • Dr. Gema Ramon, Veterinary Services Manager (Layer & Breeder Lead), Ceva Asia Pacific
  • Dr. Ng Kian Yiing, Veterinary Services, Ceva Malaysia

Together, they delivered insightful, data-driven, and scientifically backed presentations on Salmonella disease control, shedding light on both field realities and global regulatory perspectives.

Among the highlights was a discussion on how different countries approach Salmonella Enteritidis control, with some governments mandating only inactivated vaccines. This sparked thoughtful reflection on why certain policies are enforced against Salmonella Enteritidis, underscoring the importance of understanding the rationale.

As a global provider of both live and inactivated Salmonella vaccines, Ceva emphasized its commitment to offering a tailored and effective solution based on each country’s needs and regulatory framework.

The event concluded with a forward-looking message: since 2005, the number of vaccinable diseases in layers and breeders has continued to rise. In preparing for the next decade, Ceva advocates for a “less is more” philosophy—fewer interventions, but with higher precision, to ensure optimal flock health and performance. One good example of this approach is Corymune 4K & Corymune 7K—a combination that streamlines vaccination against Salmonella, ND, IB, EDS, and Coryza.
