Vaccinology Seminar 2014

One of the major events organized by Ceva Animal Health Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.and Agritech Enterprise Sdn. Bhd at Holiday Inn, Melaka on 11 June 2014.

More than 50 participants from whole Peninsular Malaysia travel all the way to join the informative seminar.

Vaccination is commonly done in the hatchery and farm. But do we really understand the theory behind vaccination? We were honored to have Dr Roberto Soares, Ceva Regional Poultry Technical Manager to share with us the concept and development of immunity after vaccination. “Vaccinology” is not a scientific discipline taught on its own. It is a combination, bringing together immunology, microbiology (virology or Bacteriology) and pathology, to describe the process of developing a vaccine from need to reality. This was the very important message shared by Dr Roberto to explain why vaccination was so important to prevent diseases in farm. Thanks to thetechnology which enable us to control diseases and provide more understanding in immunology, microbiology and pathology aspects of poultry diseases.

Second presentation shared by Dr Branko Alva, Global Corporate Product Manager with as interesting topic “ Stop Gumboro Cycle”. IBD disease is one of the common diseases in farm and infectsbirds without any clinical signs. He emphasized that Block bursa’s infection from any type of IBDV strains, Stop shedding of virus and Prevent the challenge risk cycle after the cycle were the key point to Stop Gumboro Cycle. He concluded that Immune-Complex IBD vaccines can block the infection and stop the shedding with a broad spectrum of protection compared to conventional and rHVT-VP2 vaccine.

Last speaker of that day was Dr Jessica Lee, Product and Technical Manager of Ceva Animal Health Malaysia who shared local field experiences to control Newcastle Disease. She quoted one of the key points from Sun Tzu, "The Art of War - If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will lose in every battle” to describe control of Newcastle Disease. We should know our enemy (Newcastle Disease virus) and ourselves to win every battle with Newcastle Disease. She concluded that new technology vaccine like VTM HVT-ND can provide fast and effective Newcastle Disease protection with ND booster during early age to control Newcastle Disease spreading in whole Malaysia.

The end of this seminar marked a positive response from the participants through discussion on how to control IBD and ND effectively with speakers. Finally, the event was wrapped up by Mr Chris Chew and thanking all participants who spent their precious time to travel all the way and join the fruitful seminar.
