The Great Shift of Broiler Industry was the theme of Vec Tour 2013 held at the Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel on 17 September 2013.

Led by reputed speakers from Canada, France, Brazil and Thailand, this event attracted  60 broiler producers, veterinarians and consultants  throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

The event was kicked off  by Dr Amanda Lim, Area Manager of Ceva Animal Health Asia Pacific who announced Malaysia being the first ‘embarkation’ of this Vec Tour 2013. This Tour continues its journey later on to Philippines and Thailand to talk about three Giant Shifts, field results and Platinum Brooding.

Dr Nitiwat Kaewpoowat, Ceva Asia Pacific Regional Poultry Marketing Manager detailed three giant shifts in broiler. Under ‘Hatchery Vaccination, the Global Shift of Vaccination’, he gave a worldwide view on the statistics, benefits and importance of hatchery vaccination. 65% of broiler vaccination in the field has been shifted to hatchery since 2012 in 35 top poultry producing countries, and this shift may reach 75% in 2015. Concurrently, there is significant trend of modern hatcheries to adoptin ovovaccination together with technological driven vaccines. This shift is impossible without high quality vaccination services like C.H.I.C.K. (Ceva Hatchery Immunization Control Key) Program and reliable vaccination equipment.

Others exciting Giant Shifts are the shifting of IBD vaccination from field to hatchery and introduction of vector vaccine for a wider and deeper protection against Genotype VII NDV in Asia. Dr Christophe Cazaban, Ceva Global Veterinary Services Manager justified Cevac Transmune, immune complex IBD vaccine as the best solution against vvIBD, hence giving our producers peace of mind in Gumboro prevention. He ruled out immunosuppression caused by Cevac Transmune with a study on the impact of immune complex vaccine towards broiler immune system after bursectomy. This study revealed bursectomy had no effect on the antibody response to ND vaccination. He also shared an interesting result on complete protection against IB in birds with regressed bursa linked to vaccination. In a nutshell, it has been proven with studies that bursa lesions occurring later than 2-3 weeks of age do not compromise immune status of birds. In reference to the third Giant Shift, Dr Roberto Soares, Ceva Asia Pacific Regional Technical Manager has shared some exciting recent field results to proclaim Vectormune ND as the ‘Absolute Solution for Controlling Genotype VII NDV in Asia’. Under the Perfect Pair Program, Vectormune ND is far more superior than Genotype VII vaccine in controlling mortality linked to early challenge of Newcastle disease (ND). This pertinent high and early ND pressure is an endemic threat that required wider and deeper protection that can only be conferred by Vectormune ND.

Good immunization will never take place without good start up, especially in the first two weeks of broiler life span in farm. Dr Stewart Richie, President of Canadian Poultry Consultants shared his over 10 years of experience and study under Platinum Brooding.  This practice is a holistic approach in looking after all the details around the chicks to maximize their performance.  He emphasized the importance to use appropriate devices in monitoring crucial parameters like ‘FLAWS’ which stands for Feed, Litter, Light, Air, Water, Sanitation, Security and Space, and hence optimize benefits of brooding.

In conclusion, Ceva is ready to roll out the innovative Perfect Pair Program in Malaysia after years of research, trials and working closely with the poultry industry. Together, Ceva AH Malaysia and Agritech Enterprise are here to render our unique solution and services in building a mutual beneficial future with our poultry producers in Malaysia.
